Continuing on last week’s post, and further crawling through the book/picture book “Beatles: Unseen Archives.” I’m coming across the major problem of the Beatles’ early career, that being fandom, mania, the cult of celebrity. Always the biggest problem with success is when it turns itself on you, but considering their manager’s lack of control and expertise on the band’s intellectual product it doesn’t surprise me that it got to where it did. What happened then is a precursor to the internet manias that spread themselves across facebook,twitter,etc.,etc. Odds are this weekend, that atleast five of your friends on facebook posted something about Scott Pilgrim. Odds are, its getting kind of irritating. Maybe its just me.
All I know is, if I was alive during the early sixties I would have probably HATED the Beatles, just by the shear inanity of their fandom. As it turns out, I was born in the eighties, so I’ve had the good fortune of being separated from that. I can draw pictures like these with a happy heart.
As usual, check my deviantart for a bigger version of the picture.
