The texture on that fence railing. There are things that are very simple to do, that make a big effect. Texture’s one of those things, had I not made those splotches, that would have been the most boring fence. I know, you’re saying, “but it’s just a fence.” I know, I know. But I’m really pleased with that fence.

Expand your knowledge of textures and you can go far. Knowledge of textures is also the knowledge of patterns. Patterns that evoke a touch sensation. It’s really why I love comics so much, the ability to evoke almost every sensation and emotion with little more than a pencil, some bristol board, a brush, and a bottle of ink.
