Austin’s Notes: Ah, one of Ghurnst’s first appearances! Believe it or not, Ghurnst was sort of a last minute addition to the team. For years, Matt and I had it pegged as Ned, Reginald, Alex, a guy named Marke and another character named Aurelius. Of those, only Ned has remained constant, since it’s hard to match Reginald and Alex’s original designs with their current ones.

As for Ghurnst, well, he was the ORIGINAL bassist for the band who found himself jailed after a concert gone very, very wrong (this was all back when we were trying desperately to be politically relevant and had placed our story in a dystopian world wherein music is highly restricted and regulated due to its inflammatory nature. Also, music was a literal weapon. Even the simplest notes had absurd destructive power. The idea was every bit as bad as you might imagine). Thing is, Matt and I grew to love the oaf so much that we just COULDN’T get rid of him. Additionally, he’s one of the only characters I know of that’s based directly off a personal friend, which makes him all the more endearing. Maybe one day I’ll even tell you whom he takes after! But until then, keep guessing.
